Clean & Safe 

The Downtown Development District is dedicated to keeping Downtown clean and safe to foster a hospitable environment for residents, businesses and visitors.

Clean

To keep Downtown clean, the DDD utilizes a variety of services including litter abatement, pressure washing, graffiti removal, and street fixture and furniture maintenance.  Neutral grounds (medians) are continually improved with the planting and maintenence of trees and flowers.  The DDD also provides support services for special events Downtown to keep the neighborhood clean even during the city's busiest times.

Safe

The DDD employs two programs targeted to keeping Downtown's streets safe. The NOPD Police Detail provides extra police officers above the regular 8th District patrols. Detail officers actively patrol and practice a "community policing" model to anticipate problems before they arise. The Public Safety Rangers are a non-commissioned citizen service that acts as eyes and ears for the NOPD and actively interacts with residents, visitors and workers Downtown. In addition to safety training, Rangers are well-prepared to answer visitors' questions about Downtown.

Code Enforcement

Through a cooperative endeavor agreement with the City of New Orleans, the DDD enforces a variety of property maintenance issues Downtown, including proper building maintenance, sound, and signage ordinances.  For a complete list of ordinances enforced by the DDD, visit our Code Enforcement page.
