Jammin' On Julia: New Orleans' Best
Street Party After Jazz Fest

The New Orleans Arts District Association (NOADA) will host what they are calling "the city's best street party after Jazz Fest" this Saturday, May 3, on Julia Street in the Warehouse Arts District Downtown. The theme for this year's event is Jammin' On Julia to the Tunes of the 60s.

If you take a walk Downtown, you may notice things are a little greener these days. The Downtown Development District has been busy replacing the 507 trees damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The trees are planted along the sidewalks and neutral grounds... read more




Byron Scott Named Coach of the Year; Hornets Advance to Playoffs Second Round

New Orleans Hornets head coach Byron Scott has been named the 2008 NBA Coach of the Year after leading the team to 56 wins this season-- the most in franchise history-- and capturing the Southwest Division title.

The New Orleans Hornets finished out Round One of the NBA Playoffs on Tuesday with a 4-1 record against the Dallas Mavericks. The team will now face the San Antonio Spurs in the second round. The Hornets earned home-court advantage and game one will be played Downtown in the New Orleans Arena on Saturday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m.

 



Wednesday at the Square Heating Up

The weather is getting warmer, and local musicians are helping to heat things up at the Young Leadership Council's free weekly concert series, Wednesday at the Square (WATS).

The Pine Leaf Boys and Marcia Ball performed this week, closing out the first full month of concerts. The Zydepunks will open next week for Porter-Batiste-Stoltz.

The DDD, which created the successful concert series, handed over responsibility for producing the events to the Young Leadership Council in 2006.


National WWII Museum Presents
"A Tale of Three Cities: How the
United States Won WWII"

The National World War II Museum, located in the heart of Downtown New Orleans, announces a visit and presentation by historian and Pulitzer Prize winning author Dr. David M. Kennedy on Friday, May 9 at 5:30 p.m. Dr. Kennedy will present "A Tale of Three Cities: How the United States Won World War II." He will map out the three cities in 1942 and 1943 which, together, tell the story of the U.S. grand strategy ultimately responsible for the Allied victory... read more
