Carla Major, Commissioner
Carla Legaux Major is a native of New Orleans and a Business graduate of UNO. Presently she is Vice President of Human Resources and Community Relations for Harrah’s New Orleans Casino & Hotel. Carla has been with Harrah’s since the opening of the present property on Canal Street in 1999. Prior to her arrival at Harrah’s, she was the Assistant Chair of the Business Department at Xavier University and also at BellSouth, where she worked in Human Resources for eighteen years.
Carla serves on a number of boards and committees in the community and focuses on education, which she considers a quality of life issue. Carla has received numerous awards and recognition such as the Young Leadership Council Role Model Award, Data News Trail Blazers Award, City Business Woman of the Year, The University of New Orleans Education Department Community Person of the Year, Family Service of Gretna New Orleans, TOPS (Ten Outstanding Persons) award for the New Orleans community and 100 Black Women Association Outstanding Woman in Business awards. Additionally, Carla received the Harrah’s Entertainment Chairman’s Award for Community Service due to the number of volunteer hours given to this community. You may have seen Carla lately on the access channel, serving as Chair of the City of New Orleans’ Board of Zoning.
Carla is also active in organizations such as the Xavier University Youth Motivation Task Force, the Tulane University America's New Orleans Fund, United Way's Women's Leadership Initiative, Dollars for Scholars, and Council for Better New Orleans.
Carla is married to Rudy Major and they are the proud parents of two children, Keesha and Kyle.
