Enhanced Police Services
The purpose and duties of the DDD’s enhanced police unit are as follows:
Focus enhanced police resources on areas of need to address public safety and quality of life issues, real and perceived, quickly and effectively.
Provide flexibility in deployment of police resources according to changing needs Downtown, such as:
- where, when, and what type of crime is occurring;
- changing perceptions of public safety;
- special events sponsored by the DDD.
Assure accountability to DDD management and stakeholders for decreasing crime and the perception of crime Downtown.
UPDATE
The program was suspended by the City of New Orleans in May of 2011.
In the interim, the DDD has reestablished a contingency of officers strategically placed throughout Downtown for increased visibility and patrols. The DDD continues to work towards a long term solution with the City. For questions concerning the current services, contact Sam Woodroof at 504-561-8927.
